World Poker Tour
Wraps At Foxwoods
The Foxwoods Casino has
always been one of the main events on the World Poker Tour.
However, this time around the tournament at Foxwoods drew even more
attention. With each seat costing $10,000, eight-hundred poker
players signed up to create a pool that made both the first and
second place winners millionaires.
In addition to the
record participation at Foxwoods, the WPT event also set the stage
for the youngest winner in the short history of the popular
tournament. A 21-year-old by the name of Nick Schulman won the
main event and pocketed over $2 million. It wasn't the biggest
jackpot in the WPT's four-season history; However, it was big enough
to carry over to other players, such as Anthony Licastro, who came
in second place, and pocketed over $1 million in jackpot money.
Other top finishers
included Bill Gazes, Allen Cunningham, Lyle Berman and Leonard
Cortellino, who all took home their fair share of the pot.
Fans of the WPT should know Lyle Berman as the man who co-created
the WPT several years back. Not to be confused with the World
Series of Poker, which has already wrapped up for 2005, the WPT is
the other big poker tour that is widely broadcasted. It is
televised on the Travel Channel, and is scheduled to begin airing in
the Spring of 2006.
One of the most
anticipated stops on the WPT is coming up next at the Bellagio in
Las Vegas. Daniel Negreanu is the defending champion, and will
be present to defend his throne. One of the most popular
professional poker players, Negreanu is overdue for a big win, which
many fans are hoping to see. Only this time, he will have to face
the likes of several up-and-coming stars like the young Mr.
Schulman.
