Online Poker in North
Dakota
If online gambling is ever to be legalized in the United States, it will come
in small steps, most likely beginning with online poker. Republican Jim
Kasper of North Dakota knows this all too well, and is doing everything in his
power to make state regulated online poker a reality.
Not going as far to say that he himself plays poker online, Kasper thinks it
would be unwise for North Dakota to not capitalize on the potential amount of
taxable revenue that would be generated from American online poker players.
We even went so far to say that state regulation could very well put an end to
property taxes. If that doesn't drum up support, I don't know what will.
Kasper began his campaign by introducing a bill to the 2005 legislature that
would have legalized online poker, as well as regulated it within the state of
North Dakota. Despite his earnestness, the bill was put down to rest in
the Senate.
Reports claim that Kasper had traveled outside of the continental US to drum
up support for his cause. He thought that by being the first US state to
offer legalized regulation, he could attract several of the big players in the
online poker industry, who would then be inclined to set up shop in North
Dakota. Despite the rejection by the Senate, it is very likely Kasper will
keep pursuing the issue as the online poker industry continues to grow.
