Poker Goes Social
December 30, 2008
It is interesting as many ways of gambling can be seen as either social or
not social. Slot machines are not considered social, whereas something like
poker or another table game is considered to be very social. However, when you
turn to online gambling, and online poker playing, these rules change for you
can choose to be as social as you want to be as a rule.
It is tough for others to mess with you, ready your tells, or know if you are
bluffing, because they cannot see you. Internet poker is not very social at all.
However, that is all changing, as some people feel that poker should be much
more social online and are working to make it so.
Twitter Poker Tour is a website dedicated to poker but has added something new
to it that many will find a welcome change. They are adding “tweets” to the
poker playing process. Online friends can play poker and “tweet” or text each
other online so that they can carry on a conversation while they are playing.
This way they can discuss the hands or anything else they want to talk about
while playing poker.
The site has been gaining in momentum with more than 50 players a week active on
the poker site and the numbers growing exponentially each week. The poker site
has only been around since October, which makes it all that much more
remarkable. He finds that many people are switching to his poker site because
they really like being able to talk to each other – thus making it social once
again.
