Rheem Wins Poker Championship
December 28, 2008
Many people are under the mistaken impression that poker ends with the World
Series of Poker Tour. They think that once that last game is played that
this is it until next year. However, this is simply not true. There are many
poker tournaments out there that run year after year, and all year long.
This makes it extremely exciting for poker players as they know that if they
didn’t do well in the tournament they just finished, they have another
chance coming.
The latest poker tournament was the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker
Classic. It was played at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, and the winner was
David Rheem. Rheem had not yet won a big poker tournament game in the
series, but more than made up for it this time around. Rheem took home more
than $1.5 million.
There were 497 players entering into the poker tournament, which was a
$15,000 buy in. The second place winner was Justin Young, and many thought
that he might have a chance in taking it, but it was Rheem’s year. Young
took home almost $1 million, and Evan McNiff rounded out the top three with
$540,440.
The poker game was one more step on the poker tour for many of these
players. The Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic is easily one of
the premier events for the World Poker tour. Rheem set himself apart from
the rest with his excellence in playing, and was simply thrilled to win his
first World Poker Tour championship.
