Visit PokerStars - The # 1 Poker Room Accepting US Players
Kentucky Residents
Blocked from Poker Sites
December 3, 2008
In accordance with the Franklin County, Kentucky, Circuit Court’s recent
orders, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet have announced that they will now be
blocking the IP addresses of Kentucky residents. The poker sites say that
they will no longer be able to access the sites, even though the rest of the
US still can.
Tokwiro Enterprises ENRG owns Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet, and still
allows US residents to access their poker sites. However, they will no
longer be able to do so. The company released a press release that said that
they are going to be blocking the access to the poker sites as the
Commonwealth of Kentucky has decreed that it is illegal to participate in
online poker playing in their state.
They will allow those that already have accounts with the poker sites to log
on and withdraw their funds, but they will not be able to make any further
deposits or transfers within their account. They said that they have done
this so that those poker players that do not reside in Kentucky can still
access their accounts and benefit from playing on the sites.
They want those that want to continue playing poker at their sites that do
not live in Kentucky to be able “to enjoy playing online poker without
disruption or inconvenience.” This should release them from the seizure of
their poker site domain names as has been threatened by the state of
Kentucky. Governor Beshear is attempting to gain access to the domain names
of those that allow Kentucky residents to participate in online poker and
gambling – and this move should put them in the clear.
