Dikshit Alienated Others
December 30, 2008
It would seem that there is much speculation about the fact that Anurag
Dikshit’s coming forward with the US Department of Justice may not have sat well
with his co-founders. In fact, there is talk that they are actually very upset
with him and that a serious rift has formed between the three founders in
regards to it.
Last week Dikshit, one of the founders of the poker site Party Gaming, came
forward and cleared the slate with the US DOJ, thus saving his own hide. The
$300 million settlement, which really isn’t that much, has created hard feelings
within the group. The poker site was at one point easily one of the world’s
largest poker services and was created by Dikshit, Ruth Parasol, her husband
Russell De Leon, and their marketing person Vikrant Bhargava.
Not only has Dikshit alienated those at his poker home, but he has also
alienated those other large online gambling companies, whether poker related or
not. The confession and subsequent settlement could spell trouble for a lot of
other people in the poker and gambling industry. The industry is easily worth
about $12 billion a year, and this confession was a coup for the DOJ. This puts
them in a better position to go after the other large poker and gambling sites
as well.
Dikshit may have simply wanted to clear the slate for himself and end the circus
that it had become, but it has far reaching consequences for the others. If the
man needed the money it might be different, but considering he is worth more
than $500 million and still owns 27.7% of the poker company.
