Big Arrests in Poker World
December 28, 2008
Two men have been arrested for running illegal poker site. The Salt Lake
Police Department has made an arrest of a 61 year old Sandy man who was
running an illegal poker room, and the Little Rock Police Department
arrested a 38 year old man for doing a similar thing.
The man from Salt Lake City was indicted by a federal grand jury on four
counts of money laundering and operating an illegal poker room. He is
charged with running the poker room from April 2003 to June 2006 and they
allege that he made around $400,000 from the illegal poker games.
The US Department of Justice says that they are issuing a summons for him to
appear in federal court. If he is convicted he will be looking at up to 10
years for each of the four counts.
A man in Little Rock got off a little easier. Logan Wight Dungan was
arrested after a raid on an illegal poker establishment that he was running.
He said that it was legal, and was sentenced to three years probation in the
matter. Dungan was running a National Poker Challenge franchise and five
people were arrested after the initial raid. However, Dungan was the only
one charged.
He entered into a plea of no contest to the charge of keeping a gambling
house. He had to forfeit his poker tables and all of the equipment that went
with it. He also had to pay a $300 fine – but easily got off better than his
counterpart.
