Sexton Gets Inducted
November 28, 2009
Mike Sexton is more than thrilled to have gotten his induction into the
Poker Hall of Fame. This is a big deal for the poker player – as it is for
anyone who is given this honor. There were several nominees, and many
thought that Sexton probably did not stand a chance against some of them as
they were so well known – but his fans never doubted it for a minute.
Sexton says that he is astounded that he was chosen to be inducted because
of the poker players that were up for the same honor. He said that the other
finalists were all fine poker players and that they were an amazing company
to be a part of. He said that it was interesting to be the first poker
player inducted after a voting process – and was just thrilled that he was.
As he was inducted, the poker player was speaking at a dinner in his honor
and he was making jokes while being serious at the same time. He talked
about the honor that this was for him, but he also poked fun at himself
saying that he was now the answer to a new trivia question. Although
“overwhelmed” he was thankful, and thanked his family and the others in his
life that had helped him become who he was – and those that had helped poker
become the game that it was.
Sexton was also honored during a break at the final table of the World
Series of Poker Main Event, and has been playing for thirty years. His poker
winnings were in excess of three million dollars – almost four.
Interestingly enough, Sexton finished in 420th place this year – and took
home an additional $27,469 for his troubles.
