PPA Has a New Strategy
November 29, 2009
The Poker Players Alliance has been looking at various ways to get around
the legislative process for online casino gambling. The alliance knows that
they have to do something stop the regulations from going into affect and
are also aware that the channels that they have been going through are not
necessarily working for them. As of December 1st all banks are expected to
comply with the regulations that have been set forth in the Unlawful
Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA.
These regulations state that banks and financial institutions are
responsible for keeping all payment processing from going through. However
the Poker Players Alliance argues, along with the banks, that the
regulations were not written in a way that makes that job feasible for them
to do. The alliance has long maintained that as poker playing is not
gambling that they should not be subject to the rules and regulations of the
UIGEA, but with the government seizing the various funds of the online poker
players’ accounts – they have to move forward with their attempts to keep it
from passing.
They are hoping that they may have come up with a new strategy that will not
force them to wait for the passage of the Reasonable Prudence in Regulation
Act. They say that there are ways for the poker players to get around the
passage of HR 2266, and they are going to work on making that happen.
The poker alliance said that they are not going to spell out what that
process is until they have implemented it as they do not want to tip their
hands – but they think that they might have a winner with this one.
