Merrifield Takes the Lead
November 9, 2009
It cannot be said enough that a good poker game is unlike anything else
that you might choose to watch. Poker is a game of skill and luck and
aggressive and non-aggressive timing all mixed in together. How you play the
game of poker actually says a lot about you as a person, and watching a game
of poker is much like watching any high-stakes sporting match between great
players. This is exactly what it is like to watch the various teams that
play at the World Poker Tour.
Stephen Merrifield has taken the lead after day to in the World Poker Tour's
World Poker Finals at the Foxwoods Casino and Resort in Connecticut. While
many other poker fans are focusing on the final table of the World Series of
Poker in Las Vegas, they are missing an amazing event taking place on the
other side of the country. Merrifield came out strong and fast and although
he may not have been the original choice to win people are reevaluating that
choice.
The first day of the poker tournament saw 353 poker players, and by day to
the recount to 205. Todd Terry was the chip leader starting today, but
Merrifield took the lead by the end. Jason Mercier tried to move to the
league spot but unfortunately a bad beat knocked him out of it. He stayed
and fought, and was able to make it to day three although he was down in his
chips.
As the day ended the top 10 were Stephen Merrifield in first place with
465,100 chips, followed by Soheil Shamseddin with 401,000. Third through
10th place in order were Todd Terry, Terrence Chan, Curt Kohlberg, Frank
Calo, Christian Harder, Jesse Martin, Joe Serock, and Adam Gerber.
It will be interesting to see who pulls it out from here and wins the poker
tournament. Then poker players can put their focus back on that other game
happening in Vegas.
