Poker Not Holiday Proof

Whether it is the holidays, or the recession, online poker sites have been
announcing that their numbers are down. The land based casinos have seen
their numbers drop consistently since the economy took a turn for the worse,
but up until now online poker has been flourishing. Some say that it is
simply the holidays that are causing the poker numbers to go down, but
experts say that they should be seeing them go up.
The holidays are traditionally a time when more people are escaping in poker
or slot machines and the casinos normally see their numbers rise. There are
many people who choose to spend their holidays in a casino rather than with
family or friends. Many of these players are poker players, and as a rule
the tables are usually filled to the max.
However, the poker sites and the casinos have been saying that they have
less poker players this year than any other year. They say that people are
choosing to spend their time elsewhere instead of at the poker tables. This
is a concern to many of the casinos as they were hoping for their big boom
come holiday time.
Some experts say that they can’t be sure yet what the holidays will bring
and that the casinos are overreacting. They say that the Thanksgiving
numbers aren’t even in yet, and they would prefer to wait until they are
before they start to speculate as to how far down poker playing might be.
