Financial Problems Don’t Stop
Poker Players
November
18, 2008
No matter what is going on in
the financial market today, it does not stop poker players. In fact, even in
the face of all of this financial turmoil, there are many who continued
playing – making this one of the biggest years yet for poker players.
In Queensland, poker players are looking at bringing in a record $1.84
billion this year – more than any other year in history. According to the
state’s Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing, poker players collectively lost
almost $164 million just in October. That means that the 41,500 poker
machines that the state has located in their hotels and clubs have brought
in more than $1.5 billion already.
They say that if the poker playing continues the way it is, and the spending
patterns do not change from October’s numbers, they could be looking at
record amounts of poker dollars coming in. Poker players have lost almost
$100 million more than they did last year, which has to be making them
wonder why they are still playing the game.
Experts say that they actually expect the poker numbers to go up because of
the bonuses that are going out next month from the Federal Government to
their pensioners and parents. They say that with these people having more
money than they are used to, many of them are likely to spend it in the
poker machines. In fact, they caution that December may be a record month as
well.
