Danes Win at Poker
November
13, 2008
It would seem that whatever it is that the Danish have been putting in their
water, it is working. This week saw the win of not just one Danish player,
but two – and both went home with nice bundles of cash.
The Ladbrokes European Online Championship of Poker or LEOCOP, saw a Danish
player by the name of “Hahila” win the title and the grand prize. They beat
out more than 600 players to win the title, and the $229,500 prize pool that
went with it. They came head to head with “Benno26” and won. Because of the
high number of participants, there was a prize pool of $918,000 – that had
gotten a little help from the online poker site with their $500,000 deposit
that they made. Second place went to Benno26 as did $130,815.
Overall the company had seen more than 4,360 players register for the poker
tournament, which simply made it their most successful competition yet. They
said they had record number of participants this year. Hahila will be
invited back with the top 80 players to participate in the LEOCOP IV event
on November 22nd.
Meanwhile, another Danish player was showing those in the World Series of
Poker at the Rio in Las Vegas how to play. Peter Eastgate was not only the
youngest player at the final table at 22 years old, but he went on to win
the event. He has now moved on to the Final Table that will be held in
November, and many think that he is a favorite to win the whole kit ‘n
caboodle.
