Bad Moves Lead to Early Exit
November 5, 2008
As any good player can tell you, a bad move can hurt you in a poker game,
maybe even take you out of it. When it comes to poker tournaments it is even
harder as there really is a specific way to play that will help you stay
longer. But if you don’t know what you are doing you will be prone to bad
moves and thus will be out before you know it.
There are three major ways to be kicked out of a poker tournament: bluff
when you shouldn’t, call a large bet with a weak hand hoping to catch an
opponent on a bluff, or gambling too much on a coin flip.
There are ways to help yourself; you just have to be aware when playing.
Daniel Negreau says that if you play smart you can last longer. He suggests
paying attention to the pace where the blinds are escalating so that you can
judge when to make your big moves. Don’t move too early or you could blow
it.
He says that you shouldn’t take any unnecessary risks. He says that there
are risks that need to be taken so that you can win, but those risks should
be calculated. Let’s say you are slowly increasing your stack of chips and
you want to get more chips quickly – so you bluff. However, it is not the
right time to attempt a bluff and thus you lose everything, or at least a
significant amount of your chips.
Sometimes they gamble more on a coin flip than they should have, leaving
them vulnerable for the rest of the game. Try not to make the silly mistakes
and you will find yourself in it for the long haul.
