Poker Players Get Backing
November
18, 2008
Whenever a poker player comes to
any sort of big game, many wonder if they are able to do it on their own, or
if they have help behind them. The buy-ins for many poker games are
thousands and thousands of dollars, and they may not be able to pay that
themselves. Some bigger name poker players might not need the entrance fee,
but many of the smaller poker players do.
Many times they can play at another poker game and win their entry into a
larger game, which saves them the hundreds or thousands of dollars that it
would have cost them to try and enter. For many this is tough because if
they don’t have backing they can’t afford to enter – and if they do manage
to enter, they really can’t afford to lose.
Without backing or the money to do it yourself you could be the best poker
player in the world, it won’t make any difference because no one will see
you play. If you do manage to get a backer, you will need to pay them part
of your winnings, as they are essentially betting on you.
Case in point, Russian Ivan Demidov placed second in the World Series of
Poker. He won $5.8 million for his ranking, and said that he had a backer
that he would be sharing it with. He has a Russian financial supporter who
would be getting a large share of that money – in fact, his backer will walk
away with more of the winnings than Demidov did.
