New Poker Players Shine
October 10, 2009
In a world where when you think of poker players you think of those
standard names like Daniel Negreanu or Phil Hellmuth, it is nice to see some
up and coming players starting to make a name for themselves. What the
industry now sees happening is that many players are learning how to play at
an online poker site, and then taking those skills to the live casino
tournaments and truly blowing away their competition.
This could be seen at the Poker Stars European Poker Tour London where many
of the younger players really seemed to dominate the poker tables. As the
main event played down to the final 24 players, it was amazing the number of
those players that were younger than expected.
There were some pros like Chris “Jesus” Ferguson and John Juanda – but for
the most part it was names that most poker players had never heard before.
One of these players was Annette Obrestad, a 21-year-old online poker
player. She was among the leaders at the end of the day.
She feels that the younger players have an edge because they are more
fearless than their counterparts, although she was shocked to see how many
of the finalists were in her same age bracket. This of course is not her
first trip to the rodeo, having won the 2007 WSOPE main event. She feels
that much of this has to do with the way that online poker is played, as
compared to that played in the live casinos.
