Qualifier Sees Gustavson Beat Eastgate
October 13, 2009
It was quite the shakeup at the European Poker Tour’s London game.
Danish World Champion Peter Eastgate was the odds on favorite to win the
poker match, and many were surprised when he lost. In a heads up battle
Aaron Gustavson beat Eastgate at the Main event.
Gustavson was the Poker Stars online qualifier, and an American to boot.
Those in attendance said that he played poker impeccably, and it was quite
the game to watch. This was the biggest poker tournament ever to be played
in the United Kingdom. They had more than 730 poker players enter the event,
which had a £5,300 buy-in.
Not only did he win, but it is considered to be one of the quickest heads up
bouts of poker in European Poker Tour history. It lasted only seven hands
and 15 minutes, and the next thing Eastgate knew Gustavson was the winner.
It came down to an all in pre-flop where Eastgate had an Ace-9 to
Gustavson’s Ace-Queen.
Gustavson went home with the title of European Poker Tour King, as well as
the £850,000 first prize that came with such a title. He told reporters that
he was speechless, and that he could not believe that not only had he won
but that he had the title he had so dreamed about. He was aware that
Eastgate is easily one of the best players out there today and that he had
just defeated him, and defeated him rather quickly.
