Poker Playing Priest to Attend Challenge
October 8, 2009
When one thinks of the game of poker, one does not normally think in
regards to the people who actually play it. If you were going to
characterize a poker player you might say either a young man in his 20s who
has mostly played poker on line, or an older man in his 40s who is used to
playing private games in the comfort of his home or someone else’s. What you
probably would not say, in reference to who plays poker, is your local
priest.
However Father Andrew Trapp loves the game of poker. It would seem that he
is only one of many clergy who enjoy the game, however, Father Trapp has
become very good at it. When asked how it is possiblefor a priest to play
poker, he says that is not against the Catholic faith to play poker if you
play it in moderation.
The priest will be attending PokerStars.net’s Million Dollar Challenge where
he has already gone up against roughly 10,000 other online players in a
Texas Hold ’em tournament. Those players were then narrowed down to only 10,
who then go through to the second qualifying round. Add to that point he and
the other players needed to create a video for YouTube which was screened by
the show’s producers.
The producers then chose who was going to be a contestant on the television
show. Needless to say the priest is excited that he is getting a chance to
participate. He says that although the church gives him everything he needs
their church is needing repairs as well as an expansion. If he wins all of
the money that he guides is going to be donated towards the church.
