Poker Match Robbery
October 25, 2009
It seems that it isn’t safe to play poker anywhere these days.
Winston-Salem, North Carolina was the scene of the poker game robbery Sunday
night. There was a private poker game going on in the building behind the
home on Griffith Road that involved roughly 30 players. Three men came into
the game with loaded guns and robbed the poker players.
Those in attendance at the poker game said that three men came busting into
the building through the front and side doors brandishing weapons. The
suspects ordered the 30 players to lie down on the floor and took their
wallets as well as any money that was on the poker tables. They hit two of
the players, James Mullen, 63, and Mark Bowen, 50, with the butt of one of
the shotguns, and then took their wallets.
Both men are expected to recover, but were injured in the robbery. Police
say that they are looking for the three men who attacked the men and threat
and the poker players, and are asking if anyone has any information to
please contact the Winston-Salem Police Department or they can contact Crime
Stoppers at 727-2800.
Police say that the men must have known someone at the game, for it was not
a well advertised game. The poker game was a private event, leading police
to suspect that they had ties to someone there. They are following up any
and all leads, and are questioning each of the poker players that were there
that night.
