As in many professions poker players must continually fight to stay at the top of the leaderboard. They are only as good as their last game until they reach a ranking where it really doesn't matter anymore. Poker players must continually qualify for the various big name tournaments for when they don't the public quickly loses interest in them and moves on to the next professional poker player. It is at this point that promotions and various sponsorship deals start to dry up.
 
Full Tilt Poker pro James Akinhead doesn't really have to worry about that. Akinhead has just qualified for his third final table just in the last three months and he is also a member of the November Nine which is the group of poker players that will be coming back in November to play at the World Series of Poker's main event. He has already won more than $1 million in the poker tournament and obviously expects to win even more.
 
Akinhead is one of the United Kingdom's top poker players and just qualified for the Poker Million final table by knocking out some of the biggest names in poker today. He said he has wanted to be able to be a part of it as he has watched this game many times on TV hoping that he might get a chance to play some day.
 
He said managing to get to this final table his first time attending the poker tournament was a huge honor and he was overwhelmed by the excitement of it all. Going into November's World Series of Poker's final table he is in the last spot, but he says for people not to count him out just yet.
