Poker Scam Ends in Arrests of Four
September 14, 2009
It is never good to try and steal money from your employer, especially if
your employer is a large well-known casino in Las Vegas. However, four men
thought that they could do just that and get away with it. The Nevada State
Gaming Control Board has been investigating an alleged plot to take phony
jackpot payoffs. According to investigators, four Las Vegas Strip resort
casino supervisors and managers were involved in the scam. The four worked
for the Planet Hollywood casino and have already managed to take thousands
of dollars from the establishment.
Allegedly, the four men were working in the casino's poker room where the
high hand jackpots were being handled. The process of winning one of these
high hands would make the payouts on 26 different hands larger. However,
according to investigators, the supervisors would fill out false paperwork
saying that the poker hands had been higher than they were. They then kept
the money that would have traditionally gone to the poker player.
As it took three levels of documentation for the casino to pay out on the
poker hands, each of the supervisors were working together to steal the
money from the casino. The four men have been charged with forgery,
embezzlement and conspiracy among other crimes.
The Gaming Control Board had started the investigation after another
employee realized what was going on and reported them. The Board then spent
several months investigating the four and solidifying a case against them.
If found guilty, the four men could be facing significant jail time.
