Playing Poker
September 28, 2009
Many people don't really understand the object of poker. They sit down to
play a game thinking that it is just about the cards that they are dealt.
This is not true. In fact you need to understand that in order to play poker
you not only have to be able to read your opponents and see what they are
thinking when they are playing, but you also have to understand one basic
fact: the money that you play with needs to come from your other players.
More than half of the amount of money that you play with in a poker game
should come from your opponents. In the case of online poker some of this
money will come from the various promotions and bonuses that whatever site
you're at is running. But if you don't take advantage of the promotions and
bonuses, and you are not trying to get every dime of your opponents’ money,
you will never be able to stay in the game.
You have to build a solid bankroll and you have to maximize your bonuses in
order to be successful at online poker. The first thing you do is find a
poker site that is offering a substantial bonus on whatever money or
depositing. Many poker sites will offer a first-time deposit bonus which is
usually 100%. Sometimes it is more, and sometimes it is less, however if
they are not offering you a bonus that you probably don't want to be playing
at their site. You then have to look at the various promotions that the
poker room is running as well. Some of them will give extra bonuses to those
players who are a member of their club, while others will simply give you a
bonus for playing.
Once you have decided on the best poker site as far as bonuses and
promotions, then you can really start playing. It is tough for when playing
online to be able to see what your opponents are doing, but if you pay close
enough attention you will be able to figure out how they play simply based
on the ways in which they play the game.
