Mob Link to Poker Machines
September 29, 2009
When you think about old gangster movies they always seem to have
something to do with gambling. For a long time there was talk Atlantic City
and Las Vegas were run by mobsters, and that they controlled the gambling in
this country. Now, depending on what you believe, many still think that this
is true. They believe that mobsters were the ones who started Las Vegas, and
mobsters are the ones who started Atlantic City. But since that time people
seem to be aware that organized crime does exist, but they don't really feel
like it influences their life at all.
However, according to state investigators in South Philadelphia, the mob has
had their fingers in an illegal video poker machine distribution network.
According to Pennsylvania State police entered the Atty. Gen.'s office,
Curtis Arbitman was running a mob backed poker machine set up.
About 20 poker machines were taken from a warehouse that was part of the
operation. The police stormed bars and social clubs with search warrants and
seized several poker machines in those locations as well. However police
have not made any arrests at this time. According to the Atty. Gen. the
rates were part of an "ongoing investigation" but would not comment further
on the process.
There are several mob related figures currently in jail, and allegedly they
have reported that these video poker machines having the fact been used for
a legal gaming, and to support their mob related activities.
