Harrah’s Extends Contract
September 30, 2009
Harrah's Entertainment owns the rights to host the World Series of Poker.
Anyone who knows anything about poker knows that the WS0P is easily one of
the biggest, if not the biggest, poker event of the year. It is a popular
event mostly because it is open to everyone. The beauty of the poker
tournament is that anyone has the possibility of winning; you don't have to
be an established poker pro to win.
In 2005, Harrah's Entertainment purchased the rights to host the WS0P.
However a recent accord with IMG Sports & Entertainment has expanded their
agreement even further. This new deal is going to allow them to extend the
brand outside of just the events that are held in Las Vegas and London. They
will be able to offer a variety of geographic locations, while still
allowing anyone that wants to the opportunity to play.
They say that their goal is to change the brand of World Series of Poker to
where it really involves the world. Instead of it only being hosted in two
locations, they would host it around the world. The poker tournament has
truly seen an explosion in the number of people who wish to be a part of the
event. This new team is going to allow them to televise various versions of
the tournament, as well as bring in more sponsors and offer more events.
According to Mitch Garber, CEO of Harrah's Interactive Entertainment, they
will now be able to tap into the global reach that their partner company
already has. They can also use their experience and their contacts to grow
even further than they could've done on their own.
