Hall of Fame
September 15, 2009
How nice would it be to be inducted into the Poker Hall of
Fame? To play a game that you love so much, for so many years, and be
recognized among your peers for doing an excellent job? Only those who were
truly the cream of the poker crop get inducted into the Hall, and get this
honor.
In order to even be considered for the Poker Hall of Fame
you have to meet certain criteria. For example, you have to have played
poker against acknowledged top competition; you have to have played for high
stakes; you have to have played consistently well; you must have the respect
of your peers; and you must have stood the test of time.
This year's nominees include Mike
Sexton, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Dan Harrington, Tom McEvoy, Men Nguyen,
Barry Greenstein, and Erik Seidel. Originally Tom "durrrr" Dwan was also on
the roster are to be inducted, but his name was removed from the list after
it was determined that he did not meet all of the criteria. Fans of course
disagreed with this removal, saying that although he may have played mostly
online poker, he has never busted out.
Now those names that have been put forward for
consideration for the Poker Hall Of Fame will go through a five-week voting
process. Two 15 person panels will be responsible for the decision as to who
wins and voting will be handled through the World Series of Poker's website.
The inductees will be announced during the final table of the 2009 World
Series of Poker Main Event.
