Poker for a Cause
September 14, 2009
There is nothing that a poker player likes more than a good game, except
maybe a poker game that also raises money for charity. These days, you see
plenty of charities holding poker tournaments and attempting to raise some
money for a good cause. Whether it is through an actual poker tournament, or
through a poker run, it is a great way to raise a substantial amount of
money.
The Children's Institute is simply the latest to use poker as a way to raise
money. The Children's Institute is easily one of Los Angeles’ preeminent
child service organizations. The organization will be holding their First
Annual Celebrity Poker Tournament to benefit traumatized children.
On Saturday afternoon, October 17, celebrities and other high profile guests
will come to the Commerce Casino to raise money for children who have been
affected by some form of trauma, including but not limited to violence and
abuse. This center has served at risk children since 1906 by taking them out
of the violent situation, and helping them and their families recover and
lead healthy lives.
Cameron Manheim will be hosting the poker event and celebrities such as
Jennie Garth, Dean Cain, Willie Garson, Ricky Lake, Jennifer Love Hewitt,
are expected to attend. Top players will be able to win several cash prizes
including $5000 in cash, and seats to 2010 World Poker Tour Celebrity
Invitational Tournament which has a value of $25,000.
If you are unable to attend but would still like to be able to help out this
worthwhile cause, please contact Amber Rardin adds 213-807-1959.
