Poker Tournament to Benefit Special Olympics
August 26, 2009
Poker playing is supposed to be fun – otherwise what is the purpose of
playing? But sometimes poker playing can be fun and helpful at the same
time. You are starting to see more and more poker playing for various
charities – which is great because the poker player walks away a winner and
so does the charity.
Well the Pleasant Hill Police Officers Association is in agreement with the
thought of playing poker for charity and they are hosting one that will
benefit the Special Olympics in the East Bay. The tournament will be held at
the Back Forty Texas BBQ on Coggins Drive and they are hopeful that it will
turn out to be a popular and well received event.
The poker players will be playing for various prizes instead of cash, and
there will be a cash bar as well as various hors d’oeuvres for players to
snack on. The buy in will be $50 with the proceeds going to the Special
Olympics – which is a charity very dear the police officer’s association.
The tournament will start at 3 pm, with check in for the poker event
starting one hour earlier at 2 pm.
The association is hoping to sell at least 75 tickets for the poker event
and they can be purchased ahead of time as well as the day of. You can go to
TexasHoldem.kintera.org to purchase your tickets or to simply make a
donation to the Special Olympics. You can contact the Special Olympics
spokeswoman who is working with the police to pull off the poker event – her
name is Wendy Shipley and she can be reached at 925-944-8801 x222.
