Lawsuit Dropped by Poker Player
August 10, 2009
Dusty Schmidt was recently in the news for the lawsuit that he had filed
against the United States Golf Association. He had filed to have his amateur
status reinstated after it was taken away because of a poker and golf bet
that he had that they said jeopardized his amateur standing.
He said that his legal experts had gone over everything and had basically
told him that he did not have a strong enough case, which is why he dropped
it. He says that he still doesn’t feel like he did anything wrong and feels
that the golf association has over reacted to the situation.
Schmidt had posted a bet on his site for one million dollars stating that he
could beat anyone in a combined poker and golf challenge. He says that as no
one took him up on the challenge it was never actually carried through and
therefore should not have a penalty assigned to it. He says he was simply
betting his own money for fun.
He used to be a top junior golfer when he was younger, but a heart attack at
23 put him out of the loop for a while. While he was recovering from it he
ended up learning the game of poker and has won more than three million
playing poker online. He says that depending on the month, he can bring home
more than $100,000 just by playing poker. He says that he will focus on
playing poker and golf where he can however he can.
