Poker Playing is Competitive
August 27, 2009
Some players play poker because they know that there is a lot of money to
be made at it if you are good. If you are good enough to go to the World
Series of Poker and you win it – you are looking at more than $8 million
which is pretty good considering it is not really hard work. Even if you
just get to the final table you are still looking at more than a million
dollars.
But some players say that it is not about the money – they say that it is
about playing the game and having a good time. They say that they enjoy
playing and that the money is good, but it isn’t what keeps them coming
back. They say that they love the game and that is why they play.
But for some players it isn’t the fun and it isn’t the money – players like
Daniel Negreanu play because it is about the competition. He says that he
has plenty of money and that he doesn’t need to play to win anymore, but he
is playing against himself to see how good he can get his record. He says
that he is striving for a place in history and the only way to get that is
to keep playing and to keep playing his very best.
He says that he is trying to get the best record out there – that this is
what it is all about. He says that he might be a millionaire, but that it
isn’t enough. He says that he wants to be on the top of the leader board all
the time – not just some of the time – and that he simply wants to be the
best poker player he can possibly be.
