Switching Games

August 30, 2008

Internet poker forums love to discuss the differences between tournament and cash games. There are those that will play both, but many like to play one or the other. This is where the rivalry comes in.

Those that play tournament games instead of cash games are somewhat looked down upon as most forum writers say that cash game players are superior. Whether this is true or not, many think this is so, and hence comes the bickering.

Some don’t realize what the deal is as they think that they are basically the same game. However, when it comes to money they are very different. In tournament play, when you have played your last chip you are out of the game. In a cash game you can play as long as you want – or at least until all the money in your pockets and bank account is gone.

All this really means is that you play the game differently depending on how the end result of the hand will affect you. Tournament players will play their hands to try and keep as many of their chips as they can. They try to get as many chips as possible for each hand, and keep their losses to a minimum. Cash players don’t have to worry about that as they can always bring more money in.

Tournament play can be much easier for amateurs and non professionals as it is easier to stay in the game if you play it right. However, if you play it wrong, they will eliminate you and your chips before you know it.
