RGA Supports UIGEA?

Surprisingly enough, one of the
biggest players in the world of online gambling is throwing their weight
behind the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA. The recent
bill that was passed on the bill that pertains to the clarification of the
UIGEA has received their support.
The bill is called H.R. 6663 or the Unlawful Internet Enforcement
Clarification and Implementation Act (UIGEACIA), and it has actually come as
a relief to many. Pete Sessions introduced the bill which will attempt to
define what is unlawful online gambling and what isn’t.
The support comes from the Remote Gambling Association, or RGA, who are
hoping that the bill will be going after sports books and sports betting,
not online poker. They are hoping that the bill will pave the way for sites
like PartyPoker, Titan Poker and Pacific Poker to come back into the United
States market.
They had just asked the European Union Commission this past March to
investigate online gambling in the US as they felt it was discriminatory
against European operators. They say that they are supporting the bill as it
may bring them closer to their desired end result, but they are clear that
it is not the end of the discussion.
They say that the bill would have to go a lot further to make the RGA and
the EU happy, and they say that they have been very clear with the
Department of Justice in how they feel about the bills against online poker
playing. However, the Poker Player’s Alliance has not chosen to endorse the
bill, as they say the language is too confusing.
