Not much to report here –
literally. It seems that the world of poker is taking a break from having
anything exciting for us to report, so we will give you some little bites to
hold you over until we can get to something really exciting again.
Part of the problem is that The World Series of Poker main event is on pause
until the finals. This means that the world of poker is in a kind of limbo
until something new comes along, or the WSOP starts back up again in the
fall.
Because of the intensity of this year’s WSOP, many of the top poker players
around the world have taken a break as well – leaving the playing more to
the amateurs than anyone else. This might free up some tables for the less
fortunate, but it does not make for an exciting game for those that are
close to professional status.
Although, interestingly enough, Vincente Perez was back in the news. Perez
was sentenced to five years of jail for stabling fellow poker player Arthur
Prince to death a few months back. Perez had a heated argument with the
player, and according to his attorney, Prince started hitting Perez with a
metal walking stick once they were outside. Perez pulled out a pocket knife,
stabbed Prince in the cheek severing his carotid artery and causing him to
bleed to death.
Supposedly it was all due to the fact that Perez may or may not have taken
Prince’s seat at a poker game. Seems to me that it will turn out to have
been the most memorable and regrettable poker hand of Perez’s life.
