Chan Poker Shuts Down
August
28, 2008
It seems that Johnny Chan might be a wiz when it comes to playing poker, but
not so much when it comes to running an online poker site. Chan Poker has
issued a statement to the effect that they will be closing their doors after
being unable to make a go of it.
The poker site will no longer be able to accept deposits, and they will be
working hard to get everyone back their money that have already made those
deposits. The poker client will be disabled as of August 21st, and that they
hope to get those deposits back quickly.
The poker room had Chan’s face on the site, and one can only assume that his
popularity within the gaming world was what drove them to create the site
two years ago. It would have been assumed that he would be able to drive
players to the site, but this obviously has not happened.
Unfortunately, the poker site never really had any momentum behind it, and
in a tough industry like online poker you can end up sinking before you ever
really swam. Going up against big names like Full Tilt Poker and Bodog
Poker, you have to have a lot more going for you than just a name.
Some experts think that Chan will now affiliate with another poker room, and
there are many who will be more than willing to get him. It is assuredly
just a matter of timing.
