Video Poker is Not Really Poker
July 8, 2009
Many people think that when you are playing video poker you are just
playing poker at a machine. However, although they sound like the same game,
video poker and poker are not as similar as people think they are. There are
some similarities in them in that they both use a 52 card deck, and both use
the same hand rankings, but that is about it.
Video poker is different first of all because instead of playing people at
the same table as you, you are playing the machine. There is a house edge of
0.5%-5% depending on the game that you are playing and the casino you are
playing at. Video poker is much like a game of five card draw, and most
games do not stray from that idea. You get five cards and then you decide
which ones you want to keep and which ones you want to get rid of.
If you win then you get the payout, if not you don’t. Video poker has many
of the same kinds of strategies when playing, and you play it much like a
slot machine in that you put a coin in and look at a screen. Some think that
video poker is the child of slot machines and poker because it is somewhat
of a blend between the two. You play it much like a slot machine in that you
have to decide how much to bet and if you don’t bet the max you are not
eligible for the big jackpot.
Once you decide how much you want to bet, you simply click deal and start
the game. You then play it just as above, and if you win you get the number
of credits that the pay table says you will win.
