Can Records Be Broken?
July 1, 2009
With the state of the economy being what it is, there are many people who
are looking to cut corners and save money wherever they can. One of the
first things to go for many consumers is their fun stuff, like participating
in gambling or poker playing. So many are wondering what effect this will
have on the biggest poker event of the year – the World Series of Poker.
Last year the World Series of Poker broke all previous records and players
saw record setting entries. So many assumed that it would only get bigger
this year, and that it would break all kinds of records that were set last
year. However, now that the economy has gotten as bad as it has, many are
wondering if it will even make close to the same numbers that it did last
year.
Last year they had 58,720 entries into the series of poker events that the
WSOP offered. So far they have not had the same number of entries, and they
say that their numbers are definitely down so far. Now, some of it is that
people will wait until the last minute before they join, and they know that
they will have more entrants as it gets closer to the actual individual
events.
They say that things are tough all over – as can be evidenced in the recent
poker tournament held at Foxwoods. The Foxwoods Poker Classic had 346
players, and this year they only had 259. With a difference of almost 100
players, there will be a big impact on the amount of money that is in the
prize pools as well.
