Are You Ready for Poker?
July 24, 2009
For those people that are playing poker it really is all about the
strategy. Poker has very little to do with luck, except for the hand that
you are dealt. From there on it is all having to do with how you play the
hand that you are given. A great poker hand in an inexperienced poker
player’s hand could still turn out to be a losing hand and vice versa.
Poker players know what games are their strengths, and which ones are not,
and they are careful to not play those games that might not be good for
their particular playing style. Many poker players are under the assumption
that they are able to play certain games only to find out that they really
aren’t. With Texas Hold’em, this is quite often the case.
Many times with the poker game players will continue to play, even though
they are outmatched in cards – but they have put so much money into the game
already that they feel as though they are committed to finishing because
otherwise it is like they have thrown away the money. This is not the case
by any stretch of the imagination, if you have a bad hand, no matter how
much you have put in, you should not put anymore in the pot.
The best poker players in the world will tell you that there is not a single
pot out there that you should be “married” to. Those players that play it to
the end are simply following the “pot committed” rule, and are not
necessarily using their best judgment. If you honestly think that you have a
chance at playing the hand and winning then stick with it, but don’t do it
out of some sort of obligation to the money you have already played.
