Poker Bill Will Not be Affected
July 31, 2009
There are many states that are looking to legalize online poker within
their state. They say that it should be up to the states if they want to
bring in an intra state poker industry, and as it is not going across state
lines it will not affect the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act as
it pertains to crossing state lines.
Several states have really started pushing for this, and California is one
of them. The group Poker Voters of America or PVOA are determined to see
poker legalized in the state. They are trying to push through legislation
that would get them poker and they were until recently headed up by Jim
Tabilio, President and Founder.
However, with Tabiliio recently resigning, there were concerns that they
might be taking a step backward in the poker process. But their executive
director, Melanie Brenner said that their main goal to get poker intrastate
by 2010 would not be changing. She said that his replacement will be named
within two months and they have no concerns that it won’t be a smooth
transition.
Tabilio has decided to go back to bring a lobbyist and has done a lot over
the past two years to get poker legalized. Intrastate poker is exempt under
the UIGEA so they have been working with the state’s legislature to get it
legalized. They say that not only do people want to see poker legalized in
the state but they also know that it could do much to improve the budget
shortfall that California is currently going through.
