Phil Hellmuth Changing Game
July 10, 2009
Phil Hellmuth is easily one of the best poker players out there today. He
has more World Series of Poker tournament wins than any other player out
there and people say playing against him is an exercise in cunning and
patience because he can be very skillful and very abusive as well.
Hellmuth has been known by less complementary terms at times because of some
of the things that he says to his opponents if they make what he calls a bad
move. This year the WSOP has stated that they are really going to be
penalizing and removing players for “unsportsmanlike” conduct. But Hellmuth
doesn’t care for he has a new strategy this year.
He says that in the past he has been known to fold much more often because
he was not willing to go all in, but this year he is changing the way he
plays poker. He is not looking to sit out anything and is seeking a way to
bring in those players and take their money quickly. In his first hand he
went all in, and took one guy out of the poker tournament.
By the end of the first day he had well over 120,000 chips, having started
the day with 30,000. Some watching the poker game this year say that he is
simply fearless and is willing to do whatever it takes to get that big win.
He says that he is not worried about failing as he has “come to play” and in
that process he has come to win.
The top prize for the World Series of Poker is $8.55 million and Hellmuth
says that he thinks he has a pretty good chance of winning it this year.
Those observing say that he might be right.
