WSOP Continues
July 23, 2008
The World Series of Poker 2008 continued today, with more exciting moves
with every turn of the cards. Each day the event has gotten more thrilling,
as one by one the poker players have to go to the rail.
A little poker lingo for you – going to the rail means that you have left
the table and are now moving to the spectator area. This happens after you
have lost all of your chips and you are no longer in the game.
This has happened to hundreds of poker players already in this series, with
the 800+ players now down to seventeen. There were two gold bracelet winners
still holding on come Monday morning, but by Monday night they were out as
well.
Phi Nguyen and Brandon Cantu were hoping for another bracelet, but it was
not to be, and both were eliminated on Monday. Each elimination brings those
that remain to that $9.12 million payday that comes with winning the title
of World Series of Poker champion.
The winner will be decided in November, which is when the game will
continue. The poker games will continue until there are only nine players
left, and then the game is postponed until November 9th when it is aired on
television.
The best call of the day would be for Joe Bishop who won the five million
chip pot with a pair of fives. The hardest worker was Dean Hamrick who
started the day with one of the smallest stacks around, but by the end of
the day ended up with $7.45 million and only seventeen players left.
