Too Many Bracelets!
June
14, 2009
When you sit down at a table during the World Series of Poker, you expect to
be playing with many people who really know how to play the game of poker.
You will probably have people who have been there before as well as those
that it is their first time at the game. Once in a while you might end up at
a table with someone who already has a bracelet – either from this year’s
poker events or a previous year.
However, how often do you sit down at a table that had 34 poker bracelets
between the players? That is exactly what happened at Table 248 of this
year’s Championship No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw, which is also known as
Event 23. The table had Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan, both of whom have ten
bracelets; Phil Ivey, who has six bracelets; Allen Cunningham, who has five
bracelets; David Grey, who has two bracelets; and Villie Wahlbeck, who has
one bracelet. Going against all of these players was one Andy Bloch who
didn’t have any poker bracelets at all.
Bloch said that just because they had bracelets didn’t mean that he didn’t
think that he could not win. In fact, he felt that he had the same odds as
all of them. The fact of the matter is that although they might have more
bracelets going into the poker game, sitting at that table they all had the
same odds in as far as the cards that they were given.
However, it will be interesting to see how Bloch does against all that poker
fire power. If Bloch walks away from that one a winner, he will have
solidified his place in poker history.
