Minieri Gets
Bracelet
June 20, 2008
Italy’s Dario Minieri won his first bracelet at the World Series of Poker
at Event #31 – the $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed. Many thought that
Minieri would win in 2006, and then in 2007 – but it seems that 2008 was
destined to be his lucky year.
He started the poker tournament with a big chip lead, but fell behind Seth
Fischer who ended up runner-up in the poker competition. He got the last of
his chips in well behind with 4-3 suited to Fisher’s pocket kings. But the
kings did not hold and Minieri his runner-runner fours on the turn and river
for trips.
It was not long to a win for him from there, as he got the $28,418 first
prize and put Fisher in second place. Fisher didn’t walk away empty handed
though – he cleared a nice $330,519 for his troubles.
Day 2 of the poker tournament saw more than sixteen hours of play for those
in Event #33. This event was the $5,000 World Championship Seven-Card Stud
Hi/Low, and before they knew it they were down to nine. Howard Lederer had
been the big leader for a while, but ended up getting behind the others as
he took hit after hit to his stack of chips.
Lederer managed to hold on though and made it through the final elimination.
The final ended up with names like Sebastian Rutherberg, Annie Duke, Marcel
Luske, and Chris Ferguson.
The tournament is turning out to be some of the most exciting poker playing
all year, which is par for this event. People wait all year to see if they
can get a spot at one of the tables, to get that precious bracelet for all
to see that they are the poker champ. Based on what we have already seen,
this year will not disappoint.
