The 2008 World Series of Poker Event #43 was the largest of its kind in
poker history. It had 720 entries, which created a prize pool of almost one
million dollars. The top 72 got a share of that money.
Last year there were 687 entries, about 5% less than this year. This was
also only the second time that a Pot-Limit Omaha High-Low Split tournament
has been on the WSOP schedule. They introduced it in 2007 as a gold bracelet
event.
The defending champion was Lukasz Dumanski from Canada. He did not cash,
which brings the total of non-cashes to 43 in a row for defending champions.
The tournament took three days to complete and the final table was televised
live by Bluff Media on ESPN360. This year’s poker champion was Martin Klaser,
21, of Germany.
Klaser is currently a student, but is an aspiring professional poker player.
Klaser came to the tournament from Rheinbach, Germany. He has played the
European circuit prior to participating in the WSOP. At least five winners
have been younger than him at time of win.
Klaser was going to be a laboratory technician of some sort before he
discovered poker. He was studying chemical engineering, but is now
discussing other options instead.
