Poker is Popular Among
Watchers
May
26, 2009
It was already fairly well known
that people like watching poker being played, but with the recent numbers
that have come in, it is possible that no one realized just how popular
poker watching has become. When NBC announced that they were adding another
poker show to their lineup, they were flooded with calls of people thanking
them for the addition.
When the World Series of Poker decided to start offering the poker games on
television, those networks that offered the show were inundated with
viewers. EPSN has already made it a set piece of their broadcast schedule
and they say that they have seen their numbers increase over the years as
more and more people tune in to watch.
Now there are those that remain unconvinced that it is a sport, never mind a
spectator sport, but they are simply turning a blind eye to the evidence
that is right in front of them. Tickets go fast to almost all of the World
Series of Poker events, and people will stand in line for hours to get one
of those seats. Last year tickets for the Main Event not only went fast, but
they were not nearly enough to seat the number of people who were trying to
get a seat.
The WSOP starts later this week, and many of the events have already sold
out in as far as those spectator seats. It is common knowledge that if you
are interested in watching you have to move fast and you have to be one of
the first in line, or you are going to miss the poker boat.
