Obama Faced with
Desires of American People
May
14, 2009
In what can only be deemed a
real shock to the system, poker was voted the most important technology
issue by the American people. There are those that are absolutely shocked
that it has taken that much of the focus of the American people, but they
have spoken and now President Obama is faced with living up to his promises.
Obama had started Change.gov a website where people could go on and vote for
the things that they felt the government should focus on while in office.
After all of the votes were tallied, poker came out number one for
technology issues and eleventh overall. There were other issues overall that
people could vote on such as education, health care, and the environment,
and the report was submitted to Obama so he could see where Americans stood
on the issues.
There were more than 44,000 policy proposals submitted, 125,000 users, and
more than 1.4 million votes on the issues. Some say that it should not be a
big stretch for the government to understand why online poker playing is so
important to players – especially since Obama is known to be a poker fan
himself.
With all of the perks surrounding legalizing online poker, like the
additional tax money that could come into the government and the ability for
players to play poker in a safe environment, it is really a wonder that it
has not been legalized already. Professional poker players say that this is
a wake up sign to anyone who thought that legalizing online poker was not
important to US citizens.
