Poker Goes One Weird Step Forward
April 12, 2009
It seems that it isn’t enough for some people to enjoy the benefit of poker
playing. The thrill that comes from winning a well played poker tournament
just isn’t enough to keep some people going. They are the ones who are
consistently looking for something else to do; something that will make them
feel as though they are getting the most excitement out of life that they
can.
Now instead of simply playing poker, some of the players are adding new ways
of betting on things – and they range from the bizarre to the amazing, and
sometimes both at the same time. First Gus Hansen and Theo Jorgensen squared
off against each other in the boxing ring. They bet a five figure sum that
one would come out triumphant over the other, making it not only one of the
strangest poker related bets ever – it also made it one of the most
dangerous.
Well, at least it was until Sorel Mizzi and Bertrand Grospellier got into
the act. These poker players decided to bet on a marathon bet of fitness.
Commonly referred to as prop bets, these outside wagers usually tie into
poker somehow, instead of them simply being bets against another poker
player. This time around the two men will square off against each other in
seventeen events – none of which are the same. Within these events, there
will also be a nine round kick boxing match – which makes it that much less
relevant to poker.
The winner will get $230,00 as well as 15% of the loser’s wins in the next
$300,000 worth of tournaments. These poker tournaments will take place for
the most part at the 2009 World Series of Poker.
