Timoshenko Comes Out on Top
April 29, 2009
Not very well known yet unless you follow pretty much all of the poker
players out there – but Yevgeniy Timoshenko is a name to start paying
attention to. Timoshenko is heralded as one of the up and coming names in
poker these days, and with his recent win he has solidified that reputation.
Timoshenko was the lucky winner of the World Poker Tour Championship in Las
Vegas this past Saturday. Many said that he was the poker player to watch,
and experts agreed that he was poised to do well in the event. However, not
many expected him to win the entire thing.
Only 21 years old, Timoshenko plays poker like he has been playing it for
years. He has been playing at various online poker tournaments on places
like the PokerStars Sunday Million, as well as their daily and weekly poker
tournaments. He has been playing for a while, starting before his 21st
birthday – at those poker sites that would let him due to his age.
He did really well in the Irish Poker Open, the Paris Open and the Aussie
Millions and from there he went on to the 2008 Asian Poker Tour’s main
event. Winning that event really put him on the map as far as poker players
go. Timoshenko was born in the Ukraine but was raised in Washington State,
which is interesting considering they are not really thought of as a poker
or gambling friendly state. However, that is a small matter compared to how
well he did in the event.
