Big News for a Big Game
April 29, 2009
The poker world is a buzz this week with the various goings on in the world
of poker. The biggest news is probably the fact that Bodog has settled their
deal with First Technologies and will now be able to run their site from
Bodog.com again. Not only is Calvin Ayre happy to hear this, but so are many
of the online poker sites’ followers. Morris Mohawk says that they are
thrilled with the terms of the settlement and are just glad to get the Bodog
name back. What is really great about it is that the timing could not have
been better; the Bodog Poker Open III is slated to being on May 3rd.
However, there was equally exciting news in Las Vegas as well with the
announcement that Yevgeniy Timoshenko won the World Poker Tour Championship.
It was expected that he would do well in the event based on his past
performances, but it was not expected that he would beat out all of the
other players to win. Other big winners this week included Hollywood Dave
Stann who took the preliminary event at the WSOPC Caesars Las Vegas.
Stann took out Eskimo Clark and Steven McKoy – both of which came as a
surprise to many poker players. This was his third major win and his first
WSOPC ring. He took home more than $26,000 for this win. The WSOPC Caesars
Las Vegas Championship is currently running.
Then there is the fact that instead of legalizing online poker, people are
still talking about the fact that it should be legalized. The latest idea is
that if the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA is not going
to be overturned, then they should simply work around it. Since intrastate
online poker playing and gambling is not illegal, they can simply have each
state allow it if they want to and ignore the UIGEA all together. Whether or
not this will fly with the US government is another story, but several
states are already looking into it.
