The World Series of Poker Circuit Event Championship at Caesar’s Atlantic
City is underway, and poker players are having a great time following the
series. The event had 52 players trying for a win, but by the end of the
first day only 27 remained. There were many people eliminated that day that
experts had thought would actually go further, but it was not to be.
The top prize of the poker series is $322,944 and a $10,000 seat at the 2009
World Series of Poker Main Event. Some of those eliminated were quite a
surprise such as Cliff “Johnnybax” Josephy. Josephy is a World Series of
Poker bracelet holder and was expected to do well in the series. However, he
started Day 2 next to last in chips and when his pocket tens lost he hit the
rail. Another surprise was Beth Shak – who was also eliminated fairly early
on.
There were eight players eliminated in the first hour of Day 2 – which is a
lot considering who was playing. Then during the second level they got rid
of another seven, with only ten more to the big prize. By the end of Day 2
all of the World Series of Poker Circuit Champions had been knocked out of
the competition, with Brent Roberts that last to go.
Roberts fell during the third level of play, and Bill Gazes was out right
after him. Then during the fourth level of play a bunch more of them exited,
and it was on to dinner. Then after dinner Mike Sica took the 15th place as
he exited as well. The after dinner poker game saw his exit as well as that
of Casey Jarzabek. With Alex Boloton taking Jarzabek out of the running, and
taking all of his chips – he is now the poker tournament’s leader.
