TV Poker game show has licensing issues
In other online poker news
today, one Gaming Control Board member announced that a TV show’s plan to hold a
weekly poker tournament in downtown's Neonopolis could possibly require a gaming
license to move forward. This could end the TV network that is planning the show
to cancel its plans all together. As online poker players, we love shows that we
can watch at home that can help us improve our game – we want this show to move
forward.
Yesterday, Mark Clayton of the
Gaming Control Board said that FOX Sports Net didn’t discuss with casino
regulators the chances of being able to host the poker show
Fox reps did ask gaming
regulators about a TV broadcast studio at Neonopolis where filming would take
place for a poker game show. So, both sides are at odds as to what will happen
next.
Yesterday, a spokesperson for
the network said that the poker arena and TV studio they are developing did not
need a gaming license because it was a game show, not a casino. The spokesperson
also made a good point by stating that no money would even be wagered in the new
game show. Further, it is a game show not a poker tournament; players would be
winning prizes not wagering real money.
If all goes ahead as planned,
the network plans to have the first game played on May 20. It would be aired on
TV the following day. 3 of the 17 theaters at Neonopolis are being made into the
studio and TV show.
This is a good thing for
downtown Las Vegas
and Clark County should seriously consider the impact the game would have on the
economy of the district.
