Negreanu has Death in Family
February 3, 2010
Daniel Negreanu is definitely one of the best known names in the poker
industry. He is a quality professional poker player, and those that compete
against him say that it is tough to walk away from a game with him not
having learned at least one small thing about the game of poker or how to
play it. He is one of a few that have had multiple wins at the World Series
of Poker tournaments and had finished eight times in the money during this
past one. He also added a runner up showing in the £10,000 buy-in Main Event
of WSOP Europe, showing that his poker playing has no boundaries.
A member of Team Poker Stars, Negreanu posted a blog entry on Full Contact
Poker this week stating that his mother had passed away. Entitles “Mommy is
Gone,” Negreanu said that his mother had passed away in her sleep in the
hospital where she had been since February. She had been admitted after
having a stroke and mild heart attack, and had been on life support since
they had performed surgery to clean out a corroded artery.
He said that she was no longer in pain, and expressed that he had gotten to
the hospital too late to see her before she passed. He said that “she was
literally the most unselfish person” he had ever met in his life, and was
deeply saddened by her passing. Only one who has lost a parent can
understand what Negreanu is going through, and his blog posting in tribute
to her was simply and eloquently put.
He also said that there would be funeral services for her on Thursday at 11
am at the Jerett Funeral Home in Toronto. The viewing is scheduled for
Wednesday from 2-4 pm. Our hearts go out to the Negreanu family at this
difficult time and wish them our deepest condolences.
